Louisville offers Cash Rebates for Eco-friendly Lawn Equipment

If you are sick of inhaling the toxic fumes of gas powered lawn equipment and want to clean up the air. Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District is offering cash rebates for lawn equipment.

Lawn care for cleaner air is part of KAIRE, Kentuckiana Air Education. Be sure to check out the list of store’s participating in the lawn care rebate program.

Rebates are available year around. However, Louisville Metro recycling centers will only accept lawn maintenance equipment March – September.

ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes are becoming more popular around the United States because it offers so much more than the traditional wood framed homes. ICF walls contain no organic material, so there is no mold or mildew. Less noisy, unless you’re sitting next to a window… the ICF home is much quieter than a wood frame home. ICF is energy efficient by reduced heating and cooling costs.  ICF resists high winds and helps preserve the environment.

In today’s Neighborhood section of the Courier Journal, there was an advertisement on Fiberglass Windows. I checked out the website and was surprised to see that fiberglass windows are 8X stronger than vinyl. Weber Windows off Aiken Road behind the new Walmart in Middletown carries Infinity from Marvin products. Infinity products are environmentally friendly. Ultrex is made of 10% recycled materials and used 39% less energy to produce than vinyl. The glass used in infinity products is made from 15-33% recycled products.

I love going to farmers markets, the produce is much more affordable and fresher than those in the grocery stores. We have a lot of local farmers markets around town, let’s try and help support our local farmers. They usually run from April/May to November. Don’t forget to bring a bag and some dollar bills.

Emeril Lagasse has gone GREEN

Mr. “BAM” himself is whipping up creative meals with the store’s organic, and local produce, meat and seafood. It will be shot on location at Whole Foods Market. His show is called Emeril Green airing Monday to Thursday starting this month. That is, if you have the new Planet GREEN channel. For those of you that have Insight Cable, it’s Channel 221.
