ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes are becoming more popular around the United States because it offers so much more than the traditional wood framed homes. ICF walls contain no organic material, so there is no mold or mildew. Less noisy, unless you’re sitting next to a window… the ICF home is much quieter than a wood frame home. ICF is energy efficient by reduced heating and cooling costs.  ICF resists high winds and helps preserve the environment.

Moving to another city can be very stressful, especially when it involves kids and pets. You want to make sure all your ducks are in a row and everyone gets to their new location safe and sound. Here are some helpful ways to make things a little bit smoother.

If you go to the United State Postal Service online you can change your address online instead of driving to the local post office.

You can find better deals if you’re flying on Louisville International Airport website. I would also check out Transportation Security Administration for the check-in process.

If flying isn’t for you then check out Google Maps.

A great site for moving tips is The Moving Coach. It helps prepare with a packing guide and first night survival kit.

In today’s Neighborhood section of the Courier Journal, there was an advertisement on Fiberglass Windows. I checked out the website and was surprised to see that fiberglass windows are 8X stronger than vinyl. Weber Windows off Aiken Road behind the new Walmart in Middletown carries Infinity from Marvin products. Infinity products are environmentally friendly. Ultrex is made of 10% recycled materials and used 39% less energy to produce than vinyl. The glass used in infinity products is made from 15-33% recycled products.

I was pleased to read in Courier Journal that the new John L. Ramsey Middle School is green. The school has solar panels to heat water and run some of the lights. There are also motion sensors that will detect when rooms aren’t occupied, turning lights off and scaling back heating and air usage. A 40 foot windmill will soon be contructed to help generate energy. The school is located off I-265, between Chenoweth and Billtown Roads.
